History proves the LGBT’s have been subject to harassment by their employers and other employee’s, they’ve been denied jobs, denied promotions, terminated, denied leave, and been denied benefit coverage of partners am ong other things. (1) Individuals may not accept the decisions of the way other choose to live their lives but tolerance should exist at the very least as John Moran states in other words. (2) For the most part, what these individuals being discriminated against are striving for is not unreasonable. They deserve the same rights as any other employee and that’s what they have long fought for and continue to seek. Discrimination of any kind has a huge effect on people and shouldn’t be tolerated in any situation. Current Efforts to Provide Equality As of today there are still no federal laws protecting the rights of employees with non-traditional sexualities of being discriminated against in their workplace. There have been no consistencies shown from the federal government regarding this matter. Although there are efforts currently taking place to pass a federal law to prohibit discrimination based on sexuality along with increasing numbers of supportive congressmen, the bill still hasn’t yet become a law. Have you ever wondered how much exercise you need to get maximum benefits? And what exactly type of activity/exercise do you need to be doing? I chose this topic simply because I, myself, have been recently pondering how much exercise I need. I started consistently working out in January. I go to the Great Life gym either in Hartford or in Sioux Falls. I’ve discovered when I workout, I am a much happier person. My mood and energy level improve all around. However, I don’t want to be pushing my body too hard. So how much exercise do I need weekly? Am I doing the correct exercises making sure to not strain my body? I read through the article and realized this is exactly the information I need. I then exported the article into EasyBib and continued on with my search. I continued using EBSCO database. I tried using the keywords fitness, mental and benefits. Again, I realized I needed to narrow down my search. Four hundred different articles had come up. I narrowed my search down by using moderate exercise, mental, and benefits. EBSCO provided me with 27 different articles. I found one that would work perfectly for my research. While reading through this article, I noticed a word I didn’t recognize. I quickly used the dictionary built in on my computer to look up the word â€Å"adjunct.† I learned this word means a thing added to something else as a supplementary rather than an essen tial part. Next, I switched my database to Proquest. I used the keywords weekly, benefits, mental, and exercise. When I searched the keywords, Proquest provided me with 56 articles. I read through each carefully to find one that matched my topic. In the article I chose to use, researchers tested a group of students. They recorded mood and anxiety levels before and after the workout. The students exercised at different paces and for different amounts of time. Finally, for my last search I used the keywords exercise, improve, and mood. Proquest brought up 43 articles. As I scrolled through them, I realized the first article was actually the best one. Snyder wants the audience to feel empathy for the environment and the animals living in it through this theme. Thoreau argues how humans are sometimes afraid of nature â€Å"I believe that men are generally still afraid of the dark†¦ † (Thoreau 380). He reminds the reader that nature is â€Å"†¦ The most sweet and tender, the most innocent† and that, â€Å"†¦ There can be no black melancholy to him who lives in the midst of nature† (Thoreau 380). While Thoreau has a more philosophical approach to his interpretation of nature while Snyder adds a sense of urgency â€Å"And the Coyote singing / is shut away / for they fear / the call / of the wild† (Snyder 28-30). Snyder says they fear and pay little attention to the calling and consider it’s worth less than it is. â€Å"And they sold their virgin cedar trees / the tallest in miles / TO a logger / Who old them / â€Å"Trees full of bugs† (Snyder 33-37). The logger is trying to make a bargain for a much lower price on the cedar trees and adds how the â€Å"Trees are full of bugs† (Snyder 37). Sender’s emphasis on the ironic statement of the logger represents the ignorance of the individuals that do not appreciate the wild. Both writers help the reader understand how the wilderness is meant to be changing the way people think about the natural world, one can also change the way they act. Humans can discover a new way of interacting with the environment through the con mention and sympathy towards Mother Nature. Thoreau like Snyder also had strong arguments on how society is distracted and is in need for a spiritual awakening which nature can offer. He measures his spiritual level on a superior level and considers it a rewarding and a therapeutic experience. â€Å"l was suddenly sensible of such wet and beneficent society in Nature† (Thoreau 380). He reminds society that they can form a bond with nature the way he has and how they will benefit greatly from it. Snyder is more direct with society and targets individuals who reside in the city â€Å"All these Americans up in special cities in the sky / Dumping poisons and explosives / Across Asia first / and next North America† (Snyder 57-61 The urban individuals also kill nature and pay no attention to nature and then states, â€Å"A war against earth† (Snyder 62). Snyder implies that human kind is at war with earth. The African American community has enjoyed much progress from the days when slavery was legal up to date where they enjoy almost equal opportunities with the whites. However, it is still very easy to observe trends among the two groups that evidence a disadvantage to the black community in almost every area of life whether socially or politically. While it is not appropriate to underscore the advancements made by movements such as the civil rights movement, there are challenges that black Americans face for the reason of their being black. When it comes to basic things like housing and education, the African Americans do not enjoy the same opportunities with the whites. African Americans face many problems and obstacles in todays societies. Some Include, Economic challenges, social and political issues that African American citizens fight and face today. ?HistoryThe history of Africans in the United States has been one of a continuous fight for equality. The African Americans led the abolitionist movement to put an end to the cruel institution of slavery that diminished their dignity. However even with winning the fight against slavery, there were other impediments that made it difficult to enjoy life on the same scale with the Americans and advance themselves. There were laws that were erected as blocks that enabled racial segregation and even though we may say that the different races enjoy equal protection under the law, there are still visible disadvantages like when it comes to police brutality and employment. In 1896, the Supreme Court ruled that public facilities that were racially segregated were legal as long as the facilities for blacks and whites were equal in Plessy v Ferguon. This ruling by the highest court made it constitutionally acceptable that African Americans should not share the same schools and other facilities with the whites. The Jim Crow laws established the separate but equal doctrine that prevailed in the United States for six decades and segregation was legal. The colored people however fought to put an end to this segregation especially in public schools which culminated in the landmark case of Brown V Board of Education in 1954. This case was a great win for the colored community in America as it pronounced that racially segregated schools were unconstitutional. Many school boards that consisted of white members however did not receive this ruling well and failed to implement it. The African American community was not happy with the slow pace at which change was happening and they took to the streets led by the likes of Martin Luther King Jr, Ella Baker and others. Even though Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated, the Black Power Movements had emerged and they called foe political and economic equality. The government responded to these agitations by the black community with some affirmative actions for the black community in areas like college admissions and employment. However, these affirmative action plans were done away with in p ost racial America where it is supposed that race does not matter while it in fact does. Even with the election of Barack Obama as a black president of a white nation, the problems that African Americans face because of their color are still persistent.After Brown v Board of Education, the Supreme Court held in Runyon v McCrary in 1976 that even private nonsectarian schools that practiced segregation by denying admission to students on the basis of race went against the federal civil rights laws. This was a ruling that followed the precedent that was set in Brown which was the legal precedent that was used to overturn laws that were used to enforce segregation and by the 1980s, the affirmative action had equalized college admission and attendance to a large extent.Post-racial America and Barack Obamas presidency Barack Obamas presidency was synonymous with success in attaining the end goal of the civil rights movement and gave pride to so many Americans since it was a sign that racial equality had finally been achieved. While Barack Obama was president, he envisioned an America that would not be divided on any basis whether it be the liberal or conservative America (MacLeod, 2018). The goal is to have an America where all people have access to equal opportunities regardless of whether they are Black, White, Latino or Asian. Economic challengesThere are so many economic challenges facing the black American community which have been epitomized by visible racial disparities in unemployment and wealth. The gap between the races in unemployment shows the degree of discrimination in the labor markets in America. The economic challenges faced by African Americans are as a result of many forces stemming from inherent racial inequality and although it is argued that it is because of education differences while the economic disparities between blacks and whites who have the same level of education like a bachelo rs degree is clear. Even whites who have only completed high school have a higher employment rate than blacks who have gone through college which translates to differences in income and subsequently the different economic levels where the black community is disadvantaged. There is a great wealth divide when white households are compared to African American households and this is not only a matter of economics but a matter of social justice which needs attention as a priority when it comes to the broader economic policy. This is because even with the gains in other areas like educational attainment, there is no reflection of the same when it comes to income
